For his 16th release and 4th album, Mathieu delves into his past compositions for violin, viola and cello written between 2017 – 2021.
Reworks is an album of musical collages that takes you on a sound adventure; a private visit into Mathieu’s ever-expanding and imaginative musical world, with strings at its core.
Inspired by the abstract collage works of Robert Rauschenberg, David Hockney or Kurt Schwitters, Mathieu reframes each track into brand new multi-layered, multi-sensory painterly compositions, emphasizing harmonic textures and abstract motifs.
With these musical montages, he juxtaposes string parts with found sounds, electronic percussion, or sonic manipulations, flipping the original tracks upside down and inside out. If you are familiar with Mathieu’s work, you will recognize some of his past compositions given a new life as complex, Abstract Impressionistic remixes. – 101075 Records
